Adding textures

3D models often come with additional files. These files can be materials (.mtl for .obj models for instance) or textures (images files, typically .jpg or .png). Textures can be used for many aspects of the rendering, the most frequent being the "diffuse map" which shows the colors of a surface, like wood on a table.

SmartShape supports many kinds of textures. Of course, your model must have been designed to take these textures into account.

Adding textures is just like uploading a 3D model:

  • Click on in the Action bar (in the bottom right-hand corner).
  • Browse through your files and select a supported texture format.
  • Click Open.

The selected file will begin to upload. SmartShape will then optimize your file.

Once the texture is uploaded, your model should use it and all materials referencing the textures should now use it.
